The Automation Engineer I position is an entry-to-mid level role focused primarily on manual testing of web and internal applications, with growing exposure to test automation using TypeScript and Playwright. The Automation Engineer I will execute test plans, identify and document defects, and support the QA team in delivering high-quality software. As the team's automation practice matures, this role will take on increasing responsibility for building and maintaining automated test scripts under the guidance of senior engineers.

Responsibilities:

• Execute manual test cases across web, API, and internal applications to validate functionality against requirements
• Design and document clear, repeatable test cases and test scripts based on user stories, requirements, and acceptance criteria
• Perform functional, regression, smoke, and exploratory testing throughout the software development lifecycle
• Identify, document, and track defects using the team's bug tracking system (e.g., Jira), including clear reproduction steps, screenshots, and severity assessment
• Collaborate with developers, product managers, and other QA team members to clarify requirements and verify fixes
• Participate in sprint ceremonies (standups, sprint planning, retrospectives) and contribute QA status updates
• Maintain and update test case documentation and test data as applications evolve
• Learn and begin contributing to automated test scripts using TypeScript and Playwright under the mentorship of senior team members
• Assist with basic data validation and SQL queries to verify backend results
• Support release testing and sign-off activities, including regression cycles prior to production deployments
• Escalate risks, blockers, and quality concerns to the QA Manager in a timely manner

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Basic understanding of the software development lifecycle (SDLC) and software testing lifecycle (STLC)
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow structured test plans precisely
• Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write detailed defect 1 reports
• Ability to work collaboratively in an Agile/Scrum team environment
• Basic familiarity with SQL for data validation
• Basic understanding of automation technologies, workflow platforms, AI tools, and integration frameworks
• Knowledge of software development lifecycle (SDLC) and change management practices
• Basic understanding of data governance, information security, and operational risk management principles

• Interest in growing into a test automation engineering role using Playwright and TypeScript preferred

Education and Experience

• 0-2 years of experience in software quality assurance or manual testing
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
• Hands-on experience with, or strong working knowledge of, TypeScript and Playwright (or comparable automation frameworks such as Cypress or Selenium WebDriver), with demonstrated ability to ramp quickly on Playwright/TypeScript specifically
• Experience designing test plans and test strategies for complex, multi-system features
• Experience with API testing tools (e.g., Postman, REST clients)
• Experience with bug tracking and test case management tools (e.g., Jira, TestRail, Zephyr, Xray)
• Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, Jenkins) preferred
• Experience in financial services, lending, or mortgage/home equity technology environments 2 preferred
