Job summary

American Electric Power (AEP) is seeking Operators for progression from Equipment Operator Jr to Unit Operator. The role covers tasks from strainers and heat exchangers to ash handling and boiler prep, with safety and training requirements emphasized.

Candidates should meet an engineering/industrial/energy technology associate degree or equivalent, possess a valid driver's license, and be able to work rotating shifts. MASS/POSS tests and pre-employment assessments are part of the process.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in engineering, industrial or energy technology; OR
  • Associate degree in another discipline and two years of related work experience; OR
  • High school diploma with four years of related work experience or two years of related military experience.

Responsibilities

  • Isolate, clean, open, replace, inspect, close and return to service strainers, heat exchangers and dust collectors.
  • Operate, clean, service and lubricate portable power driven tools and equipment.
  • Maintain tools, equipment and work areas in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Utilize portable meters, analyzers and equipment to conduct tests and monitoring.
  • Operate oil filtering equipment and maintenance on bottom ash and flyash handling equipment.

Education

Associate degree in engineering, industrial or energy technology
Associate degree in another discipline with 2 years of related work experience
High school diploma with 4 years of related work experience
High school diploma with 2 years of related military experience
