Job summary

American Electric Power (AEP) is seeking candidates for Equipment Operator Jr/Unit Operator tracks at our power plants. The roles involve operating and maintaining heavy plant equipment, monitoring systems, and handling routine inspections and safety procedures in rotating shifts.

The position requires an associate degree in engineering, industrial or energy technology or equivalent experience, a valid drivers license and the ability to stand for long periods.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in engineering, industrial or energy technology; OR Associate degree in another discipline and two (2) years of related work experience.
  • Possess a valid State drivers license.
  • Physical demand level is Medium; stand or walk continuously for up to 12 hours.

Responsibilities

  • Isolate, inspect and service strainers, heat exchangers and dust collectors.
  • Operate, clean, service and lubricate portable power driven tools and equipment.
  • Maintain tools, equipment and work areas in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Utilize portable meters, analyzers and equipment to conduct tests and monitoring.

Skills

Valid state drivers license

Education

Associate degree in engineering, industrial or energy technology
Associate degree in another discipline + 2 years related work
High school diploma + 4 years related experience
High school diploma + 2 years military experience
