Job summary

Axcelis is seeking a Mechanical Engineer I to support the design and development of mechanical components and subsystems for next‑generation semiconductor capital equipment. You will work on electromechanical systems, performing hands‑on design, testing, and analysis while collaborating with experienced engineers.

You will contribute to reliability, manufacturability and performance, translating requirements into solutions and participating in design reviews and product releases.

Qualifications

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
  • 0–3 years of mechanical engineering experience (internships/co-ops count).
  • Experience with 3D CAD software (Creo preferred).
  • Understanding of statics, dynamics, materials and machine design.
  • Familiarity with engineering drawings and GD&T principles.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Design mechanical components, assemblies and supporting hardware for semiconductor equipment.
  • Create and maintain 3D CAD models, drawings and docs.
  • Translate system requirements into mechanical design solutions.
  • Perform basic analyses (tolerance stack-ups, thermal, structural) with guidance.
  • Support prototype builds, testing and validation activities.
  • Document test data and evaluate design performance.
