Job summary

Salas O’Brien in New York City is seeking an entry-level Mechanical Engineer to design building HVAC systems and produce construction documentation across residential, higher education, commercial, science and technology, and Federal facilities. This role offers a hybrid work environment with a mix of in-office collaboration and remote work flexibility.

Ideal candidates hold a Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering, 0–2 years of experience, and are familiar with ASHRAE, NFPA, NEC; EIT encouraged.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• 0-2 years of experience in engineering and design.
• EIT Certification preferred but not required with willingness to obtain in 1-2 years.
• Design experience in the MEP industry.
• Knowledgeable in HVAC system design and relevant codes.

Responsibilities

• Read construction documents and develop HVAC designs based on scope and client RFPs.
• Perform heat load calculations and energy analysis using software like Trace 700.
• Produce construction documentation and BIM for mechanical systems.
• Review submittals, respond to questions, and issue reviews/reports.
• Assist in procuring new work and developing client relationships.
• Collaborate with project teams and coordinate with disciplines to meet requirements.
• Support project delivery and contribute to timely, quality solutions.
