Job summary

Optomec is seeking an Entry-Level Mechanical Engineer to support the development, testing, manufacturing, and continuous improvement of Aerosol Jet printing systems. This role offers hands-on work with design, prototyping, and documentation across the full product lifecycle.

The successful candidate will collaborate with mechanical, electrical, software, and process teams to deliver precision motion systems, fixtures, and tooling.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field.
• Zero to two years of professional experience; internships or senior design projects valued.
• Working knowledge of 3D CAD and mechanical drawing practices.
• Familiarity with manufacturing processes and GD&T.

Responsibilities

• Create and modify mechanical designs for Aerosol Jet printing systems, subsystems, fixtures, and accessories.
• Prepare detailed part drawings, assembly drawings, tolerance specs, and BOMs.
• Support precision motion assemblies, print-head mounts, substrate fixtures, enclosures, and material-delivery components.
• Develop fixtures and tooling for holding, positioning, heating, and processing substrates.
• Perform calculations involving tolerances, loads, and thermal effects.
• Assist with prototype assembly, system integration, testing, and design verification.
• Plan and conduct mechanical tests; document results and recommend improvements.
• Translate printing requirements into mechanical and system requirements.
• Support machine alignment, calibration, and motion-system verification.
• Create and maintain engineering documentation and drawings.
• Update BOMs through engineering-change process.
• Assist with suppliers and manufacturing by resolving drawing issues.
• Improve designs for manufacturability, reliability, and serviceability.
• Participate in design reviews, failure investigations, and corrective actions.
• Assist with demonstrations, acceptance testing, installation, and support.
