Junior Maintenance Technician

Location: Allegria Village – Dearborn, Michigan
Department: Maintenance
Reports To: Senior Maintenance Technician / Maintenance Director

Position Overview

The Junior Maintenance Technician is an entry-level position that supports the Maintenance Department in keeping Allegria Village’s buildings, grounds, equipment, and resident areas safe, clean, functional, and well-maintained.

This position is ideal for an individual who is mechanically inclined, dependable, eager to learn, and interested in developing a career in building maintenance. Under the direction of the Senior Maintenance Technician and Maintenance Director, the Junior Maintenance Technician will perform routine maintenance and minor repairs while gaining hands‑on experience with plumbing, electrical, HVAC, mechanical systems, and general building maintenance.

The Junior Maintenance Technician also plays an important role in providing excellent service to our residents. All interactions should reflect professionalism, courtesy, respect, and a commitment to maintaining a comfortable and welcoming community.

Essential Job Responsibilities
  • Perform routine and general maintenance tasks, including repairs to furniture, fixtures, wall coverings, flooring, doors, and other building components.

  • Assist with painting, touch‑up work, refurbishing projects, and routine equipment maintenance.

  • Assist senior maintenance staff with plumbing, electrical, HVAC, mechanical, and other building system repairs.

  • Perform minor repairs and adjustments to appliances, lighting fixtures, doors, locks, and other equipment as directed.

  • Assist with preventive maintenance activities and inspections, including accurately documenting work completed.

  • Respond to maintenance requests in a timely, courteous, and professional manner.

  • Maintain clean, orderly, and safe work areas throughout the community.

  • Ensure hallways, common areas, and work areas remain free of hazards, including cords, tools, equipment, and debris.

  • Properly use, maintain, and store tools, supplies, and equipment to ensure they are readily available and protected from damage or unnecessary waste.

  • Monitor maintenance supplies and notify appropriate staff when materials or equipment need to be replenished.

  • Complete and review maintenance logs and work orders as required.

  • Participate in fire drills, emergency preparedness activities, safety inspections, and other community safety programs.

  • Follow all established safety procedures, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), Lockout/Tagout procedures, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and other applicable safety practices.

  • Maintain a professional, respectful, and service‑oriented relationship with residents, families, visitors, and fellow team members.

  • Protect resident privacy and maintain confidentiality in accordance with community policies and applicable requirements.

  • Communicate maintenance concerns, safety issues, and equipment problems promptly to the Senior Maintenance Technician or Maintenance Director.

  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications
  • 0–2 years of general maintenance, building maintenance, facilities, construction, or related experience preferred; individuals with a strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn will be considered.

  • Basic understanding of building systems and equipment, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems.

  • Mechanical aptitude and the ability to learn new tools, equipment, procedures, and maintenance techniques.

  • Willingness to learn and consistently follow established safety procedures and practices.

  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and work effectively under supervision.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and respond appropriately to changing maintenance needs.

  • Strong communication, organization, time‑management, and problem‑solving skills.

  • Dependable attendance, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.

  • Ability to work cooperatively as part of a maintenance and community team.

  • Customer‑service mindset and the ability to interact respectfully and professionally with residents.

Education and Certifications
  • High school diploma or GED required.

  • Technical school, trade coursework, or relevant maintenance training is a plus.

  • Additional certifications or training in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or related trades are preferred but not required.
