Hunter Engineering Inc. is seeking a motivated Junior/Instrument Survey Crew Chief to lead field survey operations in Phoenix.

This hands-on role offers growth within our surveying division and the chance to work on diverse projects, mentoring junior crew members and coordinating with project managers. Ideal candidates have 2–4 years of field surveying experience, proficiency with total stations, GPS/GNSS, and data collectors, and the ability to read plans and perform boundary surveys.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; Associate's degree in Surveying or Civil Engineering Technology preferred.
• 2-4 years of field surveying experience.
• Working knowledge of surveying principles, methods, and boundary law.
• Proficiency operating total stations, GPS/GNSS equipment, and data collectors.
• Experience with Trimble, Leica, or similar survey equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret construction plans and survey plats.
• Strong mathematical and problem-solving skills.
• Valid driver's license with clean driving record.
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Physical ability to carry equipment and work on uneven terrain.

Responsibilities

• Lead 2-3 person survey crews in the field.
• Operate surveying instruments including robotic total stations, GPS/GNSS receivers, and data collectors.
• Perform boundary, topographic, construction staking, and ALTA surveys.
• Collect elevation and terrain data for topographic maps.
• Set control points and establish project benchmarks.
• Stake out property boundaries and construction layouts.
• Collect accurate field data and maintain detailed field notes.
• Ensure crew safety and adherence to company protocols.
• Communicate daily with project managers and office staff.
• Maintain and care for surveying equipment.
• Train and mentor instrument persons and rod persons.
