Job summary

Parallel Works is hiring a Junior HPC Applications Engineer to support researchers on our high-performance computing platforms. You will handle first-line support, reproduce issues, and diagnose before escalation.

You will work with Linux clusters across on-premises, cloud, and GPU providers, building software stacks alongside a senior engineer. The role suits someone who has run scientific or machine learning workloads on a cluster and wants to move to the other side of the ticket, handling

Qualifications

• 2+ years supporting users on Linux systems or running scientific or machine learning workloads on a cluster.
• Comfort with Linux command line and building software from source.
• Writing and debugging batch scripts with Slurm, PBS, or LSF.
• Proficiency with Python and a ML framework or domain scientific code.
• Clear, customer-friendly communication in plain language.

Responsibilities

• First line support: own incoming tickets, reproduce issues, resolve what you can, escalate with diagnosis.
• Write, debug, and tune Slurm submission scripts with users, including GPU requests and resource sizing.
• Build and install user-requested software under senior review; maintain module and container environments.
• Onboard new users: access, storage layout, and first jobs when a cluster comes online.
• Create user guides and FAQs to reduce repeat tickets.
• Participate in a coverage rotation for support outside standard US business hours.
