Job summary

Parallel Works is seeking a Senior HPC Applications Engineer to own the software stack and user experience on ACTIVATE platforms. You will engage weather modelers, computational chemists, aerospace engineers, and AI researchers, and handle escalations for build failures and throughput issues.

The role covers on-premises, cloud, and GPU provider environments, ensuring consistent behavior across compilers, modules, MPI builds, and filesystems.

Qualifications

• 10+ years supporting scientific or AI application users on Linux HPC systems.
• Experience building complex software from source on RHEL and Debian/Ubuntu systems.
• Experience with Spack or EasyBuild and Lmod in production.
• Experience with multi-node GPU workloads and distinguishing framework vs environment problems.
• Experience with on-premises and cloud images where you control the stack.
• Experience in at least one domain: weather/climate, CFD, molecular/materials, or structural analysis.
• US citizenship and eligibility for a Secret clearance; active clearance helps; sponsorship available.

Responsibilities

• Own the software stack and the user experience on ACTIVATE platforms.
• Serve as escalation point for build failures and multi-node job issues.
• Support AI/ML workloads and diagnose framework vs environment problems.
• Ensure applications run consistently across compilers, modules, MPI builds, and filesystems.
• Spend substantial time communicating with users and providing guidance.
• Create user guides, office hours, and training including Government events.
