Job summary

SIDNEY CENTRAL SCHOOL is seeking a head coach to organize and supervise a comprehensive athletic program, guiding staff and mentoring student athletes toward personal and team success. The role focuses on skill development, safety, and the promotion of good sportsmanship within the school community.

The candidate will oversee coaching staff, coordinate with administrators, and uphold athletic policies while fostering character development and academic achievement among participants.

Qualifications

• Ability to organize and supervise a total sports program.
• Previous successful coaching experience in assigned sport (Major sports).
• Substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport.
• Serve as a positive role model for student athletes.

Responsibilities

• Know and implement athletic policies approved by the Plainwell Community Schools' Board of Education and ensure staff adherence.
• Understand and apply existing system, state and league regulations; interpret them for staff.
• Follow the proper administrative line of command and refer requests through proper channels; attend meetings.
• Establish the fundamental philosophy, skills and techniques to be taught by staff; design conferences and staff meetings to ensure program awareness.
• Train staff and encourage professional growth through clinic attendance; delegate duties and evaluate assistants.
• Maintain discipline and morale; perform additional duties as assigned by the athletic director/principal.
• Assist the athletic director in scheduling, transportation, and event requirements; coordinate with maintenance and staff.
• Mentor athletes to develop character traits; monitor grades and conduct; guide and safeguard participants.
• Assist with program budgeting, equipment handling and inventory; ensure safety and property care.
• Coordinate public relations efforts, promote the sport, and maintain communications with media and stakeholders.
