Purpose

The Junior Pet Stylist's primary purpose is to learn how to perform services such as bathing, drying, brushing, nail trimming, ear cleaning, and gland cleaning, alongside seasoned groomers. The role focuses on ensuring the comfort, safety, and well-being of pets and delivering excellent customer service to pet parents. This is an excellent opportunity for those passionate about animals and grooming to start a career in the pet care industry.

Essential Job Functions

The incumbent must be able to perform all duties with or without reasonable accommodation:

• Under close supervision, perform grooming services including bathing, drying, nail trimming, brushing, ear cleaning, and gland cleaning according to pet parents’ instructions and company policies
• Ensure the well-being and safety of every animal in the salon at all times
• Interact professionally with pet parents, provide customer service, address inquiries, and resolve issues
• Maintain a clean and safe grooming area, disinfect tools and equipment, and perform cleaning duties as per hygiene policies
• Schedule appointments, manage paperwork, and maintain grooming records
• Learn and adhere to Petco's grooming standards and policies

Training Program Outline

• Weeks 1-3: Learning and On-the-Job Training in dog behavior, safety, check-in/out procedures, grooming policies, bathing, and drying techniques
• Weeks 3-10: Performing grooming services and achieving productivity goals

Education/Experience

• 0-1 year animal-related experience preferred (e.g., shelter volunteering, pet sitting, grooming assistance)
• High school diploma or GED preferred but not required
• Passion for animals and grooming
• Basic knowledge of dog breeds, behavior, and grooming practices
• Ability to handle pets of all sizes and temperaments with care and empathy
• Effective communication skills
• Availability to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as scheduled

Work Environment

Primarily indoors in the grooming salon. Requires bending, kneeling, lifting (up to 30 pounds), and standing for long periods. May involve exposure to heights and wet environments. Significant interaction with pets and pet parents. The environment can be noisy.
