Job summary

Infosys Public Services seeks a Junior Functional and Automation Tester to join our team. The role supports planning, execution, and documentation of functional and automated testing for modern applications.

This position collaborates with product, development, DevSecOps, and operations teams to ensure business requirements and quality expectations are met. The tester contributes to test case development, test automation, defect reporting, and continuous improvement while learning testing

Qualifications

• Foundational knowledge of software testing concepts, including functional testing, regression testing, and defect lifecycle.
• Some experience creating or maintaining automated tests using common tools/frameworks (academic projects, internships, or entry-level professional experience acceptable).
• Basic understanding of APIs and how to test them (exchange validation, status codes, authentication basics).
• Familiarity with at least one scripting or programming language used for automation or validation (e.g., Java, JavaScript, SQL).
• Familiarity with Git and standard team workflows (branching, pull requests, code reviews).
• Exposure to CI/CD concepts and willingness to learn pipeline-based testing (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab).
• Understanding of secure handling of data in test activities (least privilege, safe logging).
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including documenting test results and defects clearly.
• Exposure to Agile SDLC concepts and Software Development Life Cycle.
• Familiarity with cloud/messaging concepts (GCP Pub/Sub, Kafka).
• Exposure to Docker and modern architectures (microservices/serverless).
• Familiarity with AI-assisted tools to support test creation and analysis.

Responsibilities

• Participate in sprint/release planning by helping identify testing scope and environments.
• Review requirements and assist in creating test cases, scripts, and data to validate workflows and edge cases.
• Execute functional testing (manual and exploratory) and document results with steps and evidence.
• Build and maintain automated tests (unit, API, integration, UI) following team standards.
• Support testing of event- and message-based workflows (Kafka, Pub/Sub) and end-to-end processing.
• Assist with testing API-centric/microservices designs, including basic backward compatibility checks.
• Log, track, and re-test defects; participate in defect triage discussions with clear observations.
• Follow secure testing/data handling procedures; escalate security/privacy concerns.
• Contribute to CI/CD testing by running automated suites and maintaining test reliability.
• Maintain testing documentation (plans, evidence, dashboards, runbooks) for auditable releases.
• Learn observability basics (logs, metrics, alerts) to improve test coverage.
• Use approved AI-assisted testing tools to accelerate test creation and analysis.
