Job summary

JRM Construction in New York City is seeking a Junior Estimator to support cost estimation efforts across design development and construction documents. You will review bids, assist with value engineering, and collaborate with architects, subcontractors, and the operations team to produce accurate estimates under tight bid deadlines.

Ideal candidates have at least two years in the construction industry, strong organizational skills, and the ability to read commercial plans and specifications

• Demonstrate proficiency in reading commercial construction plans and specifications.

Responsibilities

• Compute cost factors and prepare estimates used for planning, bids, and vendor selection.
• Prepare estimates with the proper level of detail for Conceptual to Construction Documents.
• Consult with architects, subcontractors, and material suppliers to discuss estimates and cost reductions.
• Prepare quantity take-offs and estimate costs of materials, labor, and equipment.
• Provide an itemized hard and soft cost breakdown for client approval at Schematic Design end.
• Review design documents for pricing accuracy and value engineering ideas.
• Ensure estimates comply with contract requirements and corporate guidelines.
• Partner with operations to review plans for constructability and general requirements.
• Actively research and develop sources/vendors for cost data accuracy.
• Maintain current on codes and bid requirements to ensure complete bids.
• Attend client/team meetings to discuss estimates and resolve pricing questions.
• Review plans to identify omissions and capture full project scope in the estimate package.
• Maintain client relationships throughout the project life cycle.
• Analyze completed projects to compare estimated vs actual costs and identify discrepancies.
