We are seeking a motivated Junior Estimator to support the preparation of accurate and competitive cost estimates for a range of projects. This is an excellent opportunity for someone at the early stage of their estimating career who is keen to develop their technical knowledge, commercial awareness and understanding of project delivery. Working closely with senior estimators, project managers, suppliers and subcontractors, you will contribute to the successful preparation of tenders and project budgets.
Your responsibilities will include reviewing drawings, specifications and other tender documentation; measuring quantities and compiling material, labour, plant and subcontractor costs; requesting and evaluating supplier and subcontractor quotations; and assisting with the preparation of bills of quantities, pricing schedules and tender submissions. You will maintain accurate records of estimates, update cost databases and assist with identifying potential risks, exclusions and opportunities. You may also support post-tender analysis, cost comparisons and handover information for awarded projects.
The successful candidate will have strong numerical and analytical skills, excellent attention to detail and the ability to organise and prioritise work to meet deadlines. Previous experience in estimating, quantity surveying, construction, engineering or a related environment is desirable, although applications from candidates with relevant academic or practical experience are encouraged. You should be confident using Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and be willing to learn industry-specific estimating or project management software. Clear communication skills, a proactive approach and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team are essential. A relevant qualification or working towards one would be advantageous, as would an understanding of construction methods, technical drawings and commercial processes.
