Job summary

HTU is seeking a Civil/Structural Engineer for bridge inspections and related structural work. The role involves field measurements, using drones and sonar devices, and preparing technical reports and retrofit design documents.

The position requires an ABET-accredited BS in Civil/Structural Eng, teamwork, and willingness to travel. EIT/EI is a plus, with potential for growth and supervision responsibilities.

Qualifications

  • Willingness to travel out-of-state on short notice for emergency work.
  • EIT or EI certification is a plus.
  • Bridge inspection coursework or bridge inspection experience a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Operate mechanized access machinery, climbing, diving, drones, and sonar scanning devices.
  • Prepare written technical reports, drawings, structural analysis, load ratings, and retrofit designs.
  • Travel locally and occasionally across the United States for inspections and to support additional teams.
  • Assist with scopes of work, fee proposals, and technical responses for proposals.

Your Role

Here’s what you will be doing:

  • Conduct safety inspections of bridges, overhead signs, dams, and tunnels, including field measurements and documentation using tablets.
  • Use various methods and equipment such as mechanized access machinery, climbing, diving, drones, and sonar scanning devices for inspections.
  • Prepare written technical reports, electronic drawings, structural analysis, load ratings, and repair/retrofit designs.
  • Travel locally and occasionally across the United States for inspections and to support additional teams.
  • Assist with preparation of scopes of work, fee proposals, and technical responses for proposal requests.
  • Perform additional structural assessment-related duties as assigned.
About You

The company is looking for:

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil, Structural, or related Engineering discipline (ABET-accredited preferred).
  • Ability to work constructively in a team environment, communicate professionally, and grow to supervise others.
  • Willingness to attend bridge inspection training courses based on the FHWA Bridge Inspector's Reference Manual (BIRM) and maintain continuing education.
  • Openness to out-of-state travel on short notice for emergency work.
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) or Engineering Intern (EI) certification is a plus.
  • Any NHI bridge inspection coursework or bridge inspection experience is a plus.
  • Physical ability to perform bridge inspection tasks in various access conditions.
