Job summary

ALTEN Technology USA is seeking a Mechanical/Automotive engineer to support the design and development of core fuel system components, working with senior engineers, CAE teams, and manufacturers to drive testing and improvements.

You will engage in design reviews, DFMEA/DVP&R tasks, and build/testing activities, while developing a solid understanding of fuel injection systems and engine operation. Travel up to 20% locally is required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Automotive Engineering.
  • 6 months to 1 year of relevant experience in combustion or fuel systems.
  • Basic understanding of automotive fuel injection systems, engine operation, or fluid systems.

Responsibilities

  • Support development and engineering of Core Engine fuel system components (high‑pressure pumps, injection rails, fuel lines, injectors).
  • Collaborate with senior engineers, CAE teams, suppliers, and manufacturing to support design, development, testing and improvement.
  • Assist design reviews and engineering analyses to evaluate performance, reliability, and requirements.
  • Develop and review engineering documentation (DFMEA, DVP&R, specifications, change docs).
  • Assist with prototype part ordering, builds, DV/PV testing, and DV/PV test tracking.
  • Support root cause analysis and corrective actions for fuel system issues.
  • Participate in component, engine, and vehicle testing and post‑test reviews.

Job Description:
  • Support the development and engineering of Core Engine fuel system components, including high‑pressure fuel pumps, direct injection rails, high‑pressure fuel lines, port fuel injection (PFI) rails, fuel injectors, and other related components.
  • Work closely with senior engineers, designers, CAE teams, suppliers, and manufacturing teams to support component design, development, testing, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Assist with design reviews and engineering analysis to evaluate component performance, reliability, durability, and fuel system requirements.
  • Support the development and review of engineering documentation, including DFMEA, DVP&R, engineering specifications, and design change documentation.
  • Assist with prototype part ordering, component builds, development testing, and tracking of DV/PV test activities.
  • Support root cause analysis and corrective action activities related to fuel system or engine component issues.
  • Participate in component, engine, and vehicle testing and assist with post‑test reviews and failure analysis.
  • Support APQP activities, supplier meetings, manufacturing reviews, and product development activities under the guidance of senior engineers.
  • Assist with engineering changes, production launch activities, service documentation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Develop a basic understanding of fuel injection systems, internal combustion engine operation, fluid mechanics, and automotive engineering requirements.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • 6 months to 1 year of relevant experience in combustion systems, fuel systems, internal combustion engines, engine components, or a related automotive engineering field.
  • Basic understanding of automotive fuel injection systems, engine operation, or fluid systems.
  • Basic knowledge of engineering design and analysis concepts, including CAD, CAE, CFD, FEA, and GD&T.
  • Ability to perform or support basic fluid flow, pressure, and sealing calculations.
  • Basic understanding of engineering development, testing, and problem‑solving processes.
  • Strong analytical, communication, teamwork, and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency with standard Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Self‑motivated with the ability to learn quickly, manage multiple activities, and work effectively in a team environment.
  • Willingness to travel up to 0–20%, primarily locally, with occasional travel to facilities in the US, Canada, or Mexico.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Internship, co‑op, academic project, or hands‑on experience involving combustion, fuel injection, engine systems, or related components.
  • Familiarity with CAD or engineering analysis tools.
  • Basic understanding of DFMEA, DVP&R, APQP, or automotive product development processes.
  • Master’s degree in Mechanical, Automotive, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Exposure to automotive testing, validation, or root cause analysis.
