Job summary

Battelle’s Columbus, OH office is seeking a Junior Embedded Systems Reverse Engineer/Vulnerability Researcher to join the Cyber research team. You will work hands-on with hardware to reverse engineer embedded systems, extracting firmware and identifying vulnerabilities alongside a close-knit group of researchers.

This role emphasizes collaboration across disciplines to push the cutting edge of embedded security for government and industry clients.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field and 2–5 years experience, or Master’s degree or equivalent
• Familiarity with digital and analog components (resistors, capacitors, timers, ICs)
• Experience coding in C, C++, Rust and scripting languages (Python, Perl, Ruby)

Responsibilities

• Reverse engineer embedded systems by inspecting hardware and firmware
• Identify vulnerabilities and develop tools to support research workflows
• Collaborate with a small team to solve complex problems and push technical boundaries
• Prepare findings and communicate results to research and development teams
