Calfus in Pleasanton, CA is seeking an early-career Software Engineer focused on DevOps and platform work. You will automate builds, containerize services, and maintain healthy pipelines across customer engagements.

The role requires Linux expertise, Python and shell scripting, Docker, and backend skills (Node.js, Java, Python, or Go). You'll work onsite in Pleasanton and collaborate across teams to improve deployment and developer experience while upholding security practices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or related field.
• 1–3 years in DevOps, Platform Engineering, SRE, or Software Engineering; new grads with hands-on exp welcome.
• Strong knowledge of Linux including the command line, filesystems, processes, permissions, SSH, systemd, and basic networking.
• Hands-on Docker experience, building images and Dockerfiles for multi-container apps.
• Strong backend skills in Node.js, Java, Python, or Go.
• Experience with REST or GraphQL APIs, microservices, and PostgreSQL or MySQL.
• Basic knowledge of frontend frameworks (React, Angular, Vue.js).
• Ability to write clean Python and Bash for automation.
• Good Git fundamentals: branching, merging, PR workflows.
• Basic networking (DNS, HTTP, TCP/IP, ports, firewalls, TLS).
• Familiarity with IAM/PAM concepts is a plus; training provided.

Responsibilities

• Write and maintain Python and shell automation for builds, deployments, and environment setup.
• Design, develop, and maintain backend services and APIs.
• Containerize apps with Docker and keep Compose for local dev.
• Administer Linux systems, diagnose performance and network issues.
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for automated deployments.
• Set up monitoring, logging, and alerting to preempt issues.
• Support engineers by unblocking builds and improving developer experience.
• Apply SOC 2 Type 2 and ISO/IEC 27001 security/compliance practices.
• Write documentation and runbooks for operations and maintenance.
