Job summary

Sun Test Systems Inc. is seeking a Jr Designer to join the Engineering team in Huntsville, AL. The role focuses on designing and prototyping mechanical, electrical, and system components to improve performance and reliability.

You will work with cross-functional teams to process ECRs/ECOs, maintain documentation, and ensure manufacturability while following industry standards and company policies.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in engineering or mechanical technology is required.
• 0-4 years of design, development, or manufacturing experience; internships welcomed.
• Proficient in Creo/Pro-E and Windchill; SolidWorks experience will be considered.
• Knowledge of mechanical design principles, system integration, and analysis techniques.
• Familiarity with ISO, ASME, MIL-STD standards.
• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team.

Responsibilities

Position Summary

The Jr Designer will be responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing mechanical, electrical, and system components to improve performance, efficiency, and reliability. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to solve engineering challenges, support product development, and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations. This position will include design, 2d and 3d modeling, and hands on prototyping.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop mechanical, electrical, or system components to meet performance and reliability requirements.
• Process Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) and Engineering Change Orders (ECOs).
• Adhere to company revision and configuration management process.
• Conduct system modeling and testing to validate designs and optimize performance.
• Collaborate with manufacturing and quality teams to support production and ensure design for manufacturability.
• Ensure compliance with applicable standards, such as ISO 9001, AS9100, and MIL-STD-973
• Follow company quality and safety standards

Skills & Competencies

• Must be a U.S. citizen and meet any other federal program requirements (CUI and ITAR).
• Proficient in Creo/Pro-E and Windchill, will consider SolidWorks experience
• Knowledge of mechanical design principles, system integration, and analysis techniques.
• Understanding of industry standards and regulations, such as ASME, ISO, and MIL-STD.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and analytical abilities.
• Strong hands on prototyping skills
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
• Ability to troubleshoot and analyze design issues both in prototyping and production environments.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in engineering or mechanical technology, or a related field is required.
• Will consider non-degreed, if relevant work experience acceptable to meet job qualifications
• 0-4 years of experience, with a focus on design, development, or manufacturing. If no experience after college, relevant internships experience a plus

Physical Requirements

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit for extended periods of time, and reach with hands and arms
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include ability to adjust focus
• Must be able to see color to discern color-coded wiring
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time
• Prolonged periods standing, kneeling, bending, and working in R&D lab building prototypes utilizing an array of different mechanical and electrical tools.
