Job summary

InSite Engineering, a multidisciplinary civil engineering firm in New Jersey, seeks a Junior Design Engineer. You will work with experienced engineers on land development projects, preparing plans and drawings and supporting permitting and project coordination.

Ideal candidates are recent graduates or early-career professionals with a civil engineering degree, 0–2 years of experience, and a willingness to learn under licensed professionals.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field required.
• 0–2 years of relevant engineering experience; internships/co-ops encouraged.
• EIT certification preferred but not required.
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Autodesk Civil 3D preferred.
• MS Office proficiency; strong communication and organization skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist with planning and design of land development projects (residential, commercial, industrial, mixed-use).
• Prepare engineering and grading plans, utility layouts, stormwater designs, and construction details under licensed engineers.
• Develop drawings using AutoCAD and Civil 3D; research standards and regulations.
• Compile data, mapping, and site information to support planning and design.
• Participate in site visits, field investigations, and project meetings.
• Assist with permit applications, technical reports, calculations, and documentation.
• Coordinate with project managers and design teams to deliver on schedule.
• Support site plan and subdivision applications review.

As a Junior Design Engineer, you'll work alongside experienced engineers and project managers on a variety of land development projects. What You'll Do

• Assist with the planning and design of residential, commercial, industrial, and mixed-use land development projects.
• Prepare engineering plans, grading plans, utility layouts, stormwater management designs, and construction details under the guidance of licensed Professional Engineers.
• Develop and modify engineering drawings using Autodesk Civil 3D and AutoCAD.
• Research municipal ordinances, zoning regulations, and applicable local and state design standards.
• Compile project data, mapping, and site information to support project planning and design.
• Participate in site visits, field investigations, and project meetings.
• Assist with permit applications, technical reports, calculations, and supporting documentation.
• Coordinate with project managers and multidisciplinary design teams to help deliver high-quality projects on schedule.
• Support the preparation and review of site plan and subdivision applications.

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline from an accredited college or university.
• 0–2 years of relevant engineering experience (internships and co-op experience are encouraged).
• Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification is preferred but not required.
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Autodesk Civil 3D is preferred.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple assignments and priorities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Eagerness to learn, collaborate, and develop professionally.
• Self-motivated with strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing quality work.
