Job summary

Blab is seeking a Junior Data Engineer for a full-time, remote-first role. You must be a resident of Pennsylvania, New York, or Brazil at startup and within commuting distance of our offices in Philadelphia, New York City, or São Paulo.

Qualifications

• BA/BS in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field strongly preferred
• Minimum of 2+ years of experience in data engineering
• Experience in a DevOps-oriented culture with CI/CD
• Proficiency with Git and collaborative workflows
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, or CDK) for cloud provisioning
• Proven experience in designing and deploying data solutions
• Experience designing, building, and onboarding new sources into ETL/ELT pipelines
• Ability and desire to take product/project ownership
• Proficiency in SQL and scripting languages (Python, Java, or Scala)
• Experience with data pipeline and workflow management tools
• Knowledge of Hadoop, Spark, Hive a plus
• Experience using AI coding assistants and other AI tools to improve development speed
• Excellent communication skills

Responsibilities

• Own Pipeline Development End-to-End: design, build, and maintain robust ETL/ELT pipelines
• Add New Data Sources: evaluate, scope, and integrate data sources
• Partner Across Pillars: collaborate with teams to translate data needs into pipelines
• Monitor & Troubleshoot: identify and resolve pipeline failures and data quality issues
• Support Foundational Data Models: maintain core data models with analytics engineer
• Ensure Data Availability: ensure data needed by analysts and ML engineer is available
• Follow Data Governance Standards: apply data standards and sensitivity classifications
• Evaluate Pipeline Tooling: explore new ETL/ELT tools to improve onboarding speed
• Quantify Impact: track pipeline reliability and onboarding speed on analytics and ML work
• Major Objectives: onboard new data sources, improve infrastructure, enable data transformations
• Onboarding new data sources, improving downtime, data modelling, data labeling/documentation
• Data governance compliance and cross-team collaboration
