Job summary

Associated Wholesale Grocers, Inc. (AWG) is seeking a Junior Data Engineer to join the Data Architecture, Engineering and Analytics team in Kansas City, KS.

This role supports migrating legacy data warehouse solutions to Databricks and Azure, building pipelines, and modernizing data platforms. The ideal candidate will have Databricks, Python, and Azure experience, strong communication, and a desire to grow in a high-performing data organization.

Qualifications

• 1–3 years of data engineering or related experience (Associate Analyst level).
• Basic understanding of data modelling, mapping and data quality/governance practices.
• SQL in SQL Server, Oracle, or DB2 environments.
• Cloud experience with AWS or Azure.
• Experience with columnar storage systems (Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery).

Responsibilities

• Support Availability and Services (50-60%).
• Troubleshoot and develop solutions using AWG tools like Gemini, CoPilot, NotebookLM.
• Collaborate with developers and support engineers to resolve issues.
• Participate in on-call rotation for pipelines and legacy systems.
• Maintain documentation for legacy systems, jobs, pipelines, and modernization.
• Understand change control procedures (RFC, CAB, CI/CD).
• Build real-time and batch data integrations into the data lake/warehouse.
• Develop scalable ETL processes and provide technical design docs.
• Design dimensional models and cleanse/transform data.
• Scale and tune pipelines and SQL queries.
• Support unit, integration, and UAT testing.
