Job summary

Mesa County Department of Human Services is seeking an entry-level Assistant County Attorney to provide legal services in dependency and neglect, child support, adult protection, and related administrative matters under supervision. You will draft motions, pleadings, prepare cases for hearing, assist with appellate briefing, and advise DHS daily while partnering with caseworkers to support timely outcomes.

This role involves courtroom appearances and collaboration within a public service

Qualifications

• Must hold a Juris Doctorate and be eligible to practice in Colorado.
• Strong research, writing, and oral advocacy skills required.
• Ability to manage a high-volume docket under supervision and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

• Draft, file, and argue routine motions; conduct legal research and analysis; prepare witnesses and exhibits; and present evidence at hearings as appropriate.
• Represent the Department in dependency/neglect matters, including hearings and trials, and handle appeals as assigned.
• Provide daily legal guidance to DHS staff on case strategy, subpoenas, discovery, and compliance with procedures.
• Assist DHS with training caseworkers on Colorado's Children's Code and related procedures, prepare cases for filing, and prosecute dependency/neglect cases.
