Job summary

The YMCA Camp Cosby in Alpine, AL is seeking a Part Time Jr. Counselor to live with campers, assist with safety and daily activities, and support cabin leadership. You will help campers design daily schedules, assist in writing home, and participate in all camp programs under the Sr.

Counselor’s guidance. The role emphasizes Christian values, teamwork, and service, with requirements including experience with children in camping or youth work and the ability to obtain CPR/First Aid

Qualifications

• Prior experience with children in camping or youth work.
• Physical ability to cover camp grounds and participate in activities.
• Must be able to obtain CPR/First Aid certifications.
• Must be 17 years of age.

Responsibilities

• Live with campers and help ensure their safety, health and happiness in your cabin.
• Attend all staff meetings.
• Help campers design their daily schedule during activity sign-up.
• Assist campers in writing home.
• Work five daily activities along with cabin activities and evening programs.
• Assist Sr. Counselor in leading three camp-wide morning watches (song, devotion, pledge).
• During check-in/out assist with traffic and luggage.
• Help campers pack and claim items to reduce lost and found.
• Ensure a staff member aged 19+ is always nearby.

Job Details: Job Location: Camp Cosby - Alpine, AL 35014, Position Type: Part Time, General Function:

In accordance with the Christian principles of the YMCA, this summer position involved assistance with the care of summer campers, ensuring their safety, well-being, happiness, growth and development. The Jr. Counselor lives in a cabin with the campers and assists with all cabin activities under the leadership of the Sr. Counselor. This position also includes facilitation of a minimum of two activity areas for campers throughout the camp.

Know How:

• Prior experience with children in camping or related youth work.
• Physical ability to cover entire camp grounds and participate in all camp activities.
• Must be able to obtain CPR/First Aid certifications.

Principle Activities:

• Live with campers and assist in the responsibility of their safety, health , welfare and happiness of each camper in your cabin.
• Attend all staff meetings.
• Assist campers in designing their daily schedule during camper activity sign-up.
• Asset campers with writing home.
• Work 5 daily activities along with cabin activities and evening programs.
• Assist Sr. Counselor in leading 3 camp wide morning watches to include a song, devotion and our pledge of allegiance.
• During check in and check out assist with traffic and luggage.
• Assist campers in packing up to make sure all items are claimed to the right owner minimizing lost and found.
• Assure there is always a staff member 19 or older within earshot or eyesight.

The effectiveness of this position can be measured by Jr. Counselors who show an aptitude to assist and learn in an attitude of enthusiasm of service to others providing a positive image of Camp Cosby and the YMCA.
