Job summary

The UCLA Library Preservation & Conservation department seeks a Kress Assistant Conservator (KAC) to independently perform entry level and intermediate conservation treatments on Special Collection materials. This role includes examination, documentation, sample analysis, conservation treatment, housing decisions, and interaction with staff, curators, and librarians.

This limited appointment position is up to 12 months; schedule is 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in art conservation (US or international) or equivalent experience.
• Bachelor’s Degree in related area or equivalent experience.
• Experience with examination, documentation & treatment of library materials.

Responsibilities

• Perform entry- and intermediate-level conservation treatments on Special Collection materials.
• Document examination, analysis, and decisions; prepare housings and handling recommendations.
• Collaborate with Preservation & Conservation staff, curators, and librarians on projects.
