This prestigious role is awarded to standout former campers who have shown exceptional leadership, a deep knowledge of their sport, and the ability to guide and uplift others. It’s more than a title—it’s your chance to give back and make a lasting impact.

As a junior coach, you’ll proudly represent NubAbility, showcasing advanced skills and sportsmanship while mentoring young athletes. You’ll be a role model both on and off the field, sharing your expertise and embodying the spirit of perseverance and excellence that defines our community.

Eligibility & Qualifications

  • Strong leaders eager to mentor and share expertise with younger campers.
  • Participants in at least two previous NubAbility camps.
  • Excellent athletes actively competing in their sport and on track for varsity‑level competition.
  • Advanced knowledge and skill in their sport for their age, and actively competing with an aim to join a varsity‑level team.
Responsibilities
  • Work side‑by‑side with head and senior coaches to deliver impactful training programs for limb‑different youth athletes.
  • Create and run training plans; shadow senior coaches to learn best practices.
  • Share expertise with campers to inspire and empower them during all training sessions.
  • Provide feedback to head coaches and address challenges within your group to help make camp a success.
  • Maintain contact with camper families for ongoing mentorship after camp.
  • Submit all required forms, releases and training materials on time; be punctual for all meetings and coaching sessions.
  • Follow all directions from head and senior coaches; be a positive ambassador for NubAbility.
Logistics & Costs
  • Junior coaches are responsible for their own travel and lodging expenses.
  • A parent or guardian must accompany you at camp.
  • NubAbility provides camp meals and coach uniforms.
  • Coaches bring their own athletic bottoms, sport‑appropriate shoes, personal sports equipment (e.g., gloves) and sunscreen.
  • NubAbility supplies a shirt for each day of camp, all necessary equipment, required safety gear (e.g., eyewear, earwear), and a basic first aid kit.
Application Process
  • Contact the head coach of the sport you wish to coach and obtain permission to apply.
  • Participate in a one‑on‑one Zoom interview with the Executive Director.
  • Provide personal and athletic references.
  • Complete a background check through Sterling Volunteers.
  • Complete general coach training covering policies, safety protocols, and other information.
  • Attend all virtual pre‑camp meetings and in‑person camp training.
  • Indicate which camps you wish to attend.
Other Information
  • Coaches must be rising high school juniors or seniors ages sixteen and above.
  • Serving as a junior coach does not guarantee a future spot on NubAbility’s coaching team.
