Job description

POSITION OVERVIEW:Outcome Consultants Inc. (OCI) is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive on-site Junior Engineer to join our team. This role is essential in ensuring the successful performance of construction projects across remote Northern locations (ON, MB, SK, BC, AB, YT, NT, NU). Working closely with project managers, superintendents, and clients, the Junior Engineer will manage daily record keeping, scheduling support, and provide valuable support and recommendations to key decision makers for their dedicated project.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Daily Reporting & Labour, Equipment and Material (LEM) Tracking

  • Coordinate the collection and compilation of daily construction progress reports from field teams. Report on production, labor, equipment, materials usage, activities, communications and update visual reporting tools. Record work progress against planned tasks. Collect, organize, and share daily site photos to support reporting and documentation.
  • Prepare accurate daily logs and LEM (Labour, Equipment, and Materials) tracking for client review and sign-off.
  • Utilize company tools and templates to streamline data collection and ensure consistency across projects.

Field Inspections

  • Conduct daily site inspections to verify compliance with project specifications, internal standards and requirements with Authorities Having Jurisdiction.
  • Conduct inspections and coordinate client written approvals as requested by the Project Manager, Superintendents, and QA/QC personnel for the following but not limited to: lift approvals, compaction results, and geosynthetics installation.
  • Perform inspections for the QA/QC personnel to ensure conformance with the finalized Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs). Support continuous quality surveillance.
  • Capture photographic evidence during inspections to supplement reporting and maintain project records.
  • Support third-party testing agencies and consultants with coordination and access as needed.

Subcontractor and Supplier Management

  • Review and recommend for approval subcontractor/ supplier invoices ensuring tracking against existing purchase orders/ contracts. Maintain all subcontractor/ supplier costs for inclusion in Earned Value Management Reporting.
  • Ensure proper documentation of contracts, change orders, submittals, and payment certifications.
  • Support the Project Manager in procurement activities including verifying delivery of materials and equipment to site.
  • Coordinate subcontractors and suppliers’ timelines to align with project schedule and scopes.

Schedule & Performance Monitoring

  • Update baseline and detailed critical path construction schedules using Primavera P6.
  • Maintain 3-week lookahead schedules for review by the internal project team.
  • Update performance reports and dashboards using Power BI and Excel.
  • Track productivity rates, key performance indicators (KPIs), and support earned value management reporting.

Data Management & Compliance

  • Maintain Outcome’s project data to ensure accurate records.
  • Maintain comprehensive project documentation including contracts, change orders, submittals, and financial records.
  • Coordinate with accounting and procurement teams to ensure consistency in cost tracking and reporting.

Other Reporting

  • Compile and distribute weekly construction progress reports for review by the Project Manager.
  • Prepare monthly invoices summarizing all lump sum, unit price and cost-plus efforts for review by the Project Manager.

Communication

  • Report directly to the Project Manager and communicate regularly with the Site Superintendent, Site Surveyors, Materials Testers, Quality Control Manager, and On-Site Client Representative.
  • Prepare Requests for Information (RFIs), cost estimates, and change order requests.
  • Participate in project kickoff and closeout meetings to ensure alignment of financial and operational expectations.
  • Act as a liaison between project delivery teams and senior management for reporting and controls.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

Experience & Education

  • Minimum 1 year experience in construction industry or a related on-site construction role.
  • Familiarity with cost control, and remote logistics.

Technical Proficiency

o Must be highly proficient in Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel.

  • Proficient in a scheduling software (eg. Primavera P6, Microsoft Project) considered an asset.
  • Experience with Power BI considered an asset.

Other Requirements

  • Valid Class 5 driver's license and willingness to travel to remote and challenging project sites.
  • Strong interpersonal communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Complete as required tasks on-site for the betterment of the project.

ADDITIONAL POSITION DETAILS

  1. Employment Type: Fixed-term contract for the 2025 construction season (approximately May through late October, subject to project timelines) with the possibility of extension based on the successful candidate’s proficiency in the position. Work is site based, however, there is the ability to bill hours remotely depending on the availability of work.

    2. Expected hours: 84 hrs per week on rotations (21 days on, 21 days off but varies based on project and personal preference).

    3. Compensation: Competitive hourly rate commensurate with experience; ranges typically from $27–$35/hour. Overtime applies based on rotation and site requirements, but will be paid at the regular hourly rate.

    4. For each scheduled shift, all work-related travel expenses—including taxis, flights, and accommodations—will be fully covered by the company. Meals will be covered by the company via reimbursable expenses or a per diem (based on project requirements). Travel time to/ from the designated regional airport to the project site will be arranged and compensated, with a maximum cap of 8 hours per direction.
