Job summary

State-of-West-Virgini seeks an entry-level attorney to work under supervision on diverse legal matters within a state agency. You will examine deeds, leases, contracts, and title abstracts; perform research on proposed legislation; and advise on legal points affecting the agency.

You will also draft briefs and assist in hearings and in regulatory work. Graduation from an ABA-accredited law school is required.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of federal and state laws, particularly in administration and regulatory functions.
• Ability to analyze, appraise and organize facts for clear presentation.
• Strong drafting and editing skills for legal instruments and opinions.

Responsibilities

• Examine and prepare deeds, leases, contracts, title abstracts and closings.
• Perform preliminary research on proposed legislation affecting the agency.
• Advise administrators on points of law affecting the agency.
• Prepare briefs and opinions for proper legal remedy.
• Assist in hearings before courts and tribunals; interpret opinions and statutes.
• Assist in preparing administrative regulations.
• Check deeds and other documents for form and legality.
• Answer telephone inquiries and correspondence.
