Job summary

The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) seeks a highly capable engineer to join the Miniature Device Technologies group in the Baltimore-Washington region. You will help develop miniature wireless systems, design, implement and test low‑power ASICs, embedded software, and board‑level integration.

Responsibilities include evaluating prototypes, developing test plans, debugging issues, documenting results, and presenting findings to sponsors.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, Math, or a similar major.
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills, ability to work independently, and to collaborate effectively.
  • Hands on experience with lab equipment (oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, logic analyzers, etc).
  • Experience in one or more areas: analog/digital ASIC design, C/C++ development, Verilog/VHDL, MATLAB DSP, Python scripting.
  • Willingness to travel; ability to analyze data and present findings; able to obtain security clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development of miniature wireless systems including ASICs, embedded software, and board integration.
  • Support evaluation of prototype devices and systems through laboratory testing.
  • Develop and execute test plans to verify system performance.
  • Identify and resolve challenging issues through active debugging.
  • Participate in field evaluation of applications.
  • Document work in technical reports and prepare sponsor presentations.
