Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Construction Management, Architectural Engineering, or related field preferred.
• 1–4 years of relevant architectural, construction, or design-build experience preferred.
• Experience producing architectural drawings and construction documents.
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit, and Microsoft Office.
• Familiarity with SketchUp, Bluebeam, Adobe Creative Suite, or rendering software beneficial.
• Basic understanding of residential construction methods, materials, and sequencing.
• Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, and consultant drawings.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

About Us

Dexterous Creative Contractors & Design, Inc. is a growing design-build firm specializing in custom residential and commercial construction, remodeling, and architectural design. By managing both design and construction under one team, we create a more coordinated experience from the initial concept through project completion.

We are seeking a motivated and well-rounded Junio Architect / Project Engineer who is interested in both the creative and technical sides of the building process. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with an architectural background who wants to gain hands‑on construction experience and understand how projects are designed, permitted, coordinated, and built.

Position Summary

This is a hybrid role supporting both our architectural and construction teams. The selected candidate will assist with architectural drawings, design development, permit coordination, and consultant coordination while also supporting active construction projects through RFIs, submittals, procurement tracking, meeting documentation, and field coordination.

The ideal candidate is organized, detail‑oriented, comfortable communicating with different project participants, and willing to divide their time between the office and if needed construction sites. We are looking for someone who wants to grow into a well‑rounded design‑build professional—not someone interested exclusively in design or exclusively supporting the construction.

Architectural and Design Responsibilities

• Assist with site measurements, field verification, as-built drawings, and existing‑condition documentation.
• Prepare architectural drawings, plans, elevations, sections, details, and presentation materials.
• Support schematic design, design development, and construction‑document phases.
• Create and update 3D models, renderings, finish schedules, and material presentations.
• Assist with building‑code research and applicable jurisdictional requirements.
• Coordinate architectural drawings with structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, energy, civil, and other consultants.
• Assist with plan‑check comments, permit corrections, and drawing revisions.
• Review shop drawings and product information for general consistency with the design documents.
• Maintain organized drawing files, project records, and design documentation.
• Participate in client, consultant, and internal design meetings.

Project Engineering and Construction Responsibilities

• Assist project managers and site superintendents with day‑to‑day project coordination.
• Prepare, distribute, and track requests for information, submittals, and material approvals.
• Maintain procurement logs, RFI logs, submittal logs, change‑order logs, and project action‑item lists.
• Help document potential changes in scope, cost, and project duration.
• Prepare meeting agendas, meeting minutes, progress reports, and follow‑up lists.
• Coordinate information among clients, architects, consultants, subcontractors, vendors, and field personnel.
• Assist with subcontractor and vendor proposal reviews and scope comparisons.
• Track material selections, lead times, fabrication schedules, and delivery dates.
• Visit project sites to verify existing conditions, document progress, and identify coordination issues.
• Assist with inspection scheduling, correction tracking, punch lists, and project closeout documentation.
• Help ensure that current drawings and project information are properly communicated to the field.
• Support the team in identifying conflicts between design documents and actual field conditions before they affect construction.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Construction Management, Architectural Engineering, or a related field preferred.
• Approximately 1–4 years of relevant architectural, construction, or design‑build experience preferred.
• Experience producing architectural drawings and construction documents.
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit, and Microsoft Office.
• Familiarity with SketchUp, Bluebeam, Adobe Creative Suite, or rendering software is beneficial.
• Basic understanding of residential construction methods, materials, and sequencing.
• Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, and consultant drawings.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and follow assignments through completion.
• Comfortable working in an office and visiting active construction sites.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for local project‑site visits.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience with a design‑build firm, general contractor, or residential architecture firm.
• Experience with custom homes, high‑end residential projects, additions, or major remodels.
• Familiarity with California building codes and local permitting processes.
• Experience with RFIs, submittals, procurement logs, or construction administration.
• Bilingual English and Spanish communication skills.
• Interest in architectural licensure, construction management, or long‑term project management.
