The Weitz Company is seeking an Accountant I to join our Accounts Payable team in Des Moines, IA. This role focuses on accurate statement analysis, assisting with month-end closing, and processing payments to vendors and subcontractors.

Ideal candidates will have 1+ year of basic accounting experience and a degree in accounting or finance. Strong attention to detail and excellent customer service are essential for success in this position.

Qualifications

• 1+ years of accounting experience in a professional setting.
• Accounting or finance degree is preferred.
• Strong attention to detail and customer service skills.

Responsibilities

• Review submitted tickets and respond to inquiries with excellent service.
• Verify vendor invoices and payment status.
• Analyze bank statements and summarize daily reports.
• Scan invoices into the system for processing.
• Enter vendors, subcontractors, customers, and job details.
• Obtain and confirm purchase card coding.
• Assist with month-end closing.
• Field project team inquiries on payment status.
• Create payment groups, print checks and submit payments.
• Verify ACH information for external customers.
• Close out work orders.
• Identify and resolve problems promptly.
