Job summary

Travis County is seeking a qualified accounting professional to provide GAAP-compliant financial services under moderate supervision. The role entails preparing financial statements, schedules and reports, completing journal entries, maintaining ledgers, and reconciling accounts while analyzing data to recommend actions.

Requirements include a Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance and two years of relevant experience; a Master’s may substitute for the two years.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting/Finance and two years of progressively responsible accounting or financial analysis experience; Master’s may substitute for the two years.
• GAAP knowledge and standardized financial practices.
• Experience with or knowledge of QuickBooks and/or SAP accounting software preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Prepares monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements, schedules and reports including journal entries and reconciliations.
• Completes journal entries, maintains ledgers and prepares cost accounting information.
• Interprets and analyzes accounting data and financial reports and recommends action.
• Monitors compliance with GAAP and internal controls.
• Assists staff and external clients by providing procedural/financial information and guidance with systems and processes.
• May train lower level staff and assist in duties related to payroll, purchasing or travel records.
• May perform specialized accounting functions such as grant accounting or collections-related tasks.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
