Job summary

Department of Juvenile Justice in Decatur, GA seeks an Accountant I to analyze financial information and prepare reports documenting assets, liabilities, and P&L within the agency. Under supervision, you will record transactions, reconcile ledgers, and prepare standard accounting reports.

The role requires knowledge of GAAP, proficiency with TeamWorks/Workday for Finance, and solid Excel skills. The position may require collaboration with auditors and other reviewers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting from an accredited college or university.
• Knowledge of GAAP and agency accounting standards.
• Experience with financial reporting and audit support.
• Intermediate Excel skills.

Responsibilities

• Apply GAAP, guidelines, and policies to set up accounts and classify transactions.
• Develop and prepare monthly/quarterly budget vs. actual reports.
• Establish accounts and assign entries to proper categories.
• Maintain accounting records, files, and documentation.
• Assist in data compilation and standard accounting reports.
• Prepare, analyze, and reconcile financial statements and budgets for accuracy.
• Support auditors and resolve issues identified in reviews.
• Serve as liaison for routine accounting inquiries.
