Job summary

State of Georgia, Department of Juvenile Justice, seeks an Accountant I to support financial reporting at the Central Office in Decatur. Under supervision, you will analyze data, prepare GAAP-compliant financial statements, reconcile accounts and assist in budget-to-actual analyses.

The role requires a Bachelor’s in accounting and familiarity with finance software; strong Excel skills are expected. This is an in-office position with government benefits and growth potential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting from an accredited college or university.
• Knowledge of GAAP and federal/state guidelines.
• Proficiency with Excel; experience with finance systems.
• Familiarity with TeamWorks Financials or Workday for Finance is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Analyzes financial information and prepares reports documenting assets, liabilities and P&L.
• Records financial transactions and reconciles accounting records.
• Develops periodic reports comparing budgeted vs actual costs.
• Supports auditors and responds to routine accounting inquiries.
