Job summary

Bowlus, a luxury travel trailer manufacturer based in Oxnard, CA, seeks a Junior Accountant who will handle essential bookkeeping tasks and use AI daily to drive efficiency. You will work directly with the COO and CEO, advancing from bookkeeping to meaningful financial analysis across two entities.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Handle accounts payable and receivable, code bank and credit card transactions, and reconcile accounts in QuickBooks Online.
• Support month-end close, including journal entries, accruals and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Track inventory, purchasing and cost of goods across our inventory system and QuickBooks, and help keep part costs and bills of materials accurate.
• Analyze spending by vendor, category and production unit, find savings, and present them with the numbers behind them.
• Build and maintain reports, models and dashboards that leadership uses to run the business.
• Use AI tools and automation to speed up recurring work, document how you did it, and keep improving the process.
• Research accounting, tax and finance questions as they come up and come back with a clear recommendation.
• Sit in on leadership meetings when finance is on the agenda, and follow up on what is assigned.

Job description

Bowlus is a luxury travel trailer manufacturer with headquarters in Oxnard, CA and a showroom in Santa Barbara, CA. Bowlus has an iconic heritage of innovation as the original aluminum travel trailer, and today builds some of the most advanced and refined trailers on the road.

We are hiring a Junior Accountant who is early in their career, uses AI tools such as Claude or ChatGPT every day, and wants to learn how a business runs from the people who run it. You will start with bookkeeping, which is the foundation of the role, and grow into the analyst the leadership team relies on to understand costs, margins and where the money goes. This is a small company, so you will carry responsibility that a larger company would not hand someone this early in their career, and you will work directly with the COO and the CEO.

Bookkeeping here is expected to move fast. If you are not comfortable doing bookkeeping work in about half the time it used to take - because you have built AI into how you work - this is not the right role for you. The time you save is what makes the rest of the job possible: finding savings on the cost side of the business worth tens of thousands of dollars a year, building the analysis behind decisions, and supporting company finance across two entities, inventory and production.

This role is meant for someone who ultimately wants to be a CFO and wants to learn a business from its accounting up.

This position is full-time and 100% on site at our Oxnard, CA facility, with no remote work. We are only considering candidates who already live in the Oxnard area: we do not offer relocation assistance and are not able to interview candidates from outside the area.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or a related field, or equivalent coursework and experience. Early in career: 0 to 3 years of experience.
• Comfortable with core bookkeeping: debits and credits, reconciliations, AP and AR.
• Daily, hands-on use of AI tools for real work, with examples you can show us of how they made you faster or better.
• Strong in Excel or Google Sheets. QuickBooks Online experience is required as well.
• Curious about how a manufacturing business makes money, and motivated to grow into a finance leader.
• Clear, direct written communication, and accuracy with numbers.
• Already living in the Oxnard area and able to work full-time on site in Oxnard, CA.

Compensation

• $60,000 to $70,000 per year depending on experience.
• Health, PTO and 401K benefits after a 90 day probationary period.
