Job description

Associates at California Bank & Trust work in a relationship-centered culture where they are provided with the tools, training, and opportunities to build the best possible relationships with our clients and with each other. Our workplace culture values each associate’s unique experiences, background and perspectives and provides a collaborative environment for all employees to grow and thrive.

As a premier California-focused financial services company dedicated to serving its communities, families, and businesses (small, mid-sized and large), CB&T has been active for 70 years and has more than 80 full-service branch offices across the state. This dedication has helped the bank earn recognition as a perennial powerhouse in yearly voting for “Best Bank” and “Best Commercial Bank” from the readers of San Diego Union-Tribune and Orange County Register. Additionally, as a division of Zions Bancorporation, the bank has collected multiple Greenwich Excellence Awards for “Overall Client Satisfaction” in Small Business & Middle Market Excellence Awards.

We are looking for Associate Credit Analysts to join our Banker Development Program class beginning in June 2027 in Irvine. The Banker Development Program at California Bank & Trust is a credit and business development training program. Designed to grow well-rounded banking professionals with strong analytical and relationship management skills, the program provides robust training and career guidance. At the end of the program, participants will be well-prepared for a career at California Bank & Trust.

The Banker Development Program Offers:
  • Exposure to different lines of business within California Bank & Trust
  • A solid foundation in the basics of banking and credit
  • Opportunity to apply finance and accounting skills to credit and business risk and credit analysis
  • Exposure to associates throughout the Enterprise
  • Access to a network of BDP analysts

The program consists of two phases that focus on education, experience, and exposure.

Phase I - Initial Training Phase (3 months)

The majority of training for the Banker Development Program will take place in San Diego. You will also have two 2-week trainings at Zions Bancorporation’s headquarters in Salt Lake City and one 1-week training at either Vectra Bank’s headquarters in Denver or Amegy Bank’s headquarters in Houston. During this portion, topics surrounding introductory banking, analytical concepts, and bank-specific administration will be covered. Some travel may be required to complete this phase.

In addition to the self-study materials, during initial training Credit Analysts participate in:

  • Case Studies and Discussion Sessions to review concepts introduced in the self-study materials
  • Training to perform credit underwriting according to bank policy
  • Bank compliance and regulatory training courses
  • Introductions to senior management
  • Department tours to provide an overview of bank operations
Phase II - Rotations (9 months)

The primary objective of the Rotational Phase is on-the-job training. The rotational system offers each Credit Analyst in-depth exposure to various banking lines and banking groups, which facilitate the placement process and ensures the development of well-rounded Bank Officers. Various areas host Credit Analysts for rotations on an ongoing basis, dependent on departmental need and geography. Some of the business line opportunities for rotation are listed below:

  • Commercial Lending
  • Corporate Lending
  • Commercial Real Estate Lending
  • Leveraged Finance
  • Entertainment Lending
  • Lending Services

  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Detail-oriented, organized, analytical, and proven problem-solving abilities
  • Leadership skills and community involvement
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel is preferred
