As a trusted legal advisor, you will exercise substantial independent judgment and initiative in shaping the Court’s understanding of key legal issues. The role offers both intellectual challenge and the chance to influence the fair and efficient administration of justice. Work is primarily performed in a professional office and courtroom environment, providing close access to the inner workings of judicial decision-making.

Why You'll Love This Opportunity:

  • Competitive Pay: $70,158.40 to $83,366.40 annually depending on experience
  • Amazing Benefits: Enjoy an exceptional benefits package, including health care for eligible employees and their dependents through our free medical clinic, offering primary care, medications, lab services, and more
  • Generous Paid Time Off: Earn up to 8 hours of vacation each month, with increases based on your years of service. We believe in giving you time to relax and recharge!
  • Secure Your Future: Benefit from a strong retirement plan through the Public Employees Retirement System of Idaho (PERSI), so you can feel confident about your future.
  • Career Growth: Opportunities for advancement and eligibility for public student loan forgiveness.

What You Would Do:

Your work will be dynamic, meaningful, and central to the judicial process. Expect to:

  • Research complex legal issues and prepare detailed memos that help shape court decisions.
  • Draft and edit legal opinions, orders, and judgments with precision and purpose.
  • Advise District Judges on legal strategy and interpretation across civil and criminal matters.
  • Attend court proceedings, take detailed notes, and support the Judge through pre-trial conferences, motion hearings, and trials.
  • Review and analyze evidence and court records to provide succinct legal insight.
  • Collaborate with attorneys and public agencies to manage court scheduling and procedural flow.
  • Stay current on legal developments, including statutes, case law, and procedural rules—your insights will help the Court stay sharp and informed.

Do You Have What It Takes?

  • A Juris Doctor from an American Bar Association accredited law school.
  • Licensed to practice law in any U.S. jurisdiction, with a current good standing.
  • Strong command of legal research techniques (Westlaw proficiency preferred).
  • A mastery of legal writing, clear logic, and persuasive communication.
  • An eye for detail with the ability to synthesize complex information into actionable recommendations.
  • Integrity, professionalism, and a commitment to excellence in public service.
  • A collaborative spirit and a calm demeanor under pressure.

Why You Should Apply:

  • Make a difference. Your work will directly impact the fair and efficient administration of justice.
  • Work closely with experienced judges and become an integral part of the judicial process.
  • Be intellectually challenged every day. No two cases are the same, and your legal mind will be constantly engaged.
  • Stable, meaningful public sector position with the opportunity to grow your legal career in a direction that truly matters.

Why You’ll Love Working Here:

  • You’ll be working in Kootenai County, one of the most picturesque places in northern Idaho! Nestled among scenic mountains and over 20 pristine lakes, our county is an outdoor enthusiast's dream.
