The Seventh Circuit Court of the 20th Judicial District of Tennessee is seeking a full-time Judicial Assistant with a start date of November 12, 2026.
The judicial assistant provides varied, complex and often confidential administrative assistance in the office judge’s chambers and courtroom; provides efficient, accurate and timely responses to questions and concerns; directs the activities of and ensures that day-to-day judicial activities of the court are performed in an effective and efficient manner. Specific essential duties of the position include:
- Answering the phone, checking voicemail messages, and responding appropriately to telephone communications
- Checking e-mails and responding appropriately to e-mails
- Opening and responding to office mail
- Communicating with others within the office, within the office of the Circuit Court Clerk, and within the Department of the Trial Courts generally
- Maintaining the court calendars and coordinating schedules of participants
- Preparing, processing and mailing written orders, as assigned
- Proofreading prepared materials for accuracy and completeness
- Using the electronic court document and information platforms to file and review documents in the written record
- Assisting in pre-hearing written preparation, as assigned
- Coordinating judge’s membership in legal organizations
- Coordinating judge’s enrollment in continuing legal education
- Making conference travel and lodging arrangements for judge
- Submitting expense reimbursement requests for judge
- Monitoring and ensuring timely compliance with all of judge’s professional reporting requirements
- Requesting courtroom interpretation services when required
- Performing court officer duties during hearings, including hosting ZOOM during hearings and assisting with the use of other courtroom technology
- Monitoring the functioning of office/courtroom equipment and seeking assistance with repairs as needed
- Monitoring office supplies and replenishing them when necessary
- Performing other administrative duties, as assigned
To qualify for the Position, one must possess the following traits and skills:
- Professional, friendly demeanor
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Efficient, tidy and organized
- Dependable and meets deadlines in a fast paced environment
- Proficient in using Microsoft Office Products (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
- Proficient in creating and editing Adobe (pdf) documents
- Proficient in use of technology to copy, scan, fax and e-mail documents
- Proficient in operating/hosting ZOOM meetings, including use of the share screen function
- Capable of maintaining a large database of attorneys/support staff and providing updates and other information to them via group e-mail
Preferred Experience
- Experience with court information and e-filing systems is a plus
- Experience with online calendaring is a plus
- Experience with web design is a plus
- Experience with social media is a plus
- Experience in a legal setting is a plus
- Experience as a legal assistant or paralegal is a plus
- Paralegal education/certification is a plus

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
- Must be a U.S. citizen or eligible to work in the U.S.

- Must comply with court confidentiality requirements, including handling confidential information in a variety of contexts
- Must submit to a background check made through the Trial Court Administrator’s Office
- All employees of Seventh Circuit Court are “at will” and can be terminated at any time with or without cause
