Responsibilities

  • Assist with daily court operations and provide security in courtrooms.
  • Handle inmates, witnesses and defendants; make arrests when necessary.
  • Maintain and secure the courtroom; support juries and court staff.
  • Transport inmates between jail and court.
  • Check and update court dockets; monitor budgets and schedules.
  • Perform administrative duties and process subpoenas; gather mail and orders.
  • Follow Code of Judicial Conduct and assist with services related to jury activities.
  • Use computer systems to order prisoners for court appearances.

Job description

The Judge’s Bailiff II will be responsible for assisting with the daily functions of the Court including providing security and safety in the courtrooms, handles inmates, witnesses and clients as well as make arrests when necessary.   • Provides security and support functions to the Judge and staff.
  • Support functions include making arrests and executing warrants.
  • Maintains and secures the courtroom.
  • Maintains excellent public, staff and court relationships during the course of business.
  • Carries a firearm with legal authority to use it in proper circumstances and is charged with the responsibility of knowing when those circumstances are present.
  • Transports inmates from jail to court and return to jail after court appearance.
  • Checks and updates court dockets prior to scheduled docket dates.
  • Performs occasional administrative duties such as answering the phone, preparing yearly budget, monitoring monthly budget, scheduling appointments for officials, picking up mail, review for threats, make distribution, preparing purchase orders, picking up items from supplier (Purchasing Dept.), and perform other related clerical duties.
  • Confirms active warrants and makes arrest. Follows the Code of Judicial Conduct.
  • Assists Court in obtaining and providing services relating to jury activities.
  • Uses computer to order prisoners for court appearances.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be able to stay organized and know how to prioritize the workload.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Competency with computers and Microsoft Office 365 Suite.
  • Advanced analytical skills.
  • High School diploma or GED
  • Two (2) years law enforcement related experience.
  • Peace Officer Certification through TCLEOSE
  • Working knowledge of the Court.
  • Mandatory firearms qualification and physical training.
  • Must have dependable transportation for the delivery of subpoenas.

While performing the duties of this position, the incumbent may be required to bend, hear, keyboard, sit, stand, talk, work alone and with others, and work overtime. Must be able to lift up to 25lbs.
