Job Overview

Designs a complete and complex framework, system, or product. Defines processes for technical platforms, system specifications, input/output and working parameters for hardware and/or software compatibility. Conceives system interfaces and business application prototypes. Identifies, analyzes and resolves system design weaknesses. Influences the shaping of future products by contributing to the framework (architecture) used across multiple products or systems.

What your background should look like:
Technical Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Develop Solar PV design/construction packages including solar array layouts, electrical SLD, DC collection systems, collection system studies (Cable Ampacity, Power Losses), and equipment installation details for Utility Scale Solar PV systems (5-500MW+).
  • Perform analysis and evaluations to determine the most cost-effective DC Collection System designs for Utility Scale Solar PV Systems (5-500MW+).
  • Support development of early-stage projects with conceptual designs and material take-offs (pre-LNTP).
  • Manage external subcontractors for other adjacent services.
  • Interact directly with clients for successful project execution.
  • Use Excel spreadsheets, commercial and proprietary engineering software to design Solar PV systems.
  • Potential site visits to gather notes and take pictures of existing conditions to aid in design and identify critical flaws.
  • Contribute to continual development of internal solar engineering standards, toolsets, and work processes.
  • Transform initial system conceptual ideas into fully developed optimized EPC designs.
Other Key Responsibilities:
  • Experience with estimating or designing electrical systems is mandatory.
  • Ability to read, comprehend and apply electrical codes and/or standards (NEC 690-691, NEC 310, IEC 62548, IEC 62738).
  • Oversee and execute process improvements and the development of policies, procedures, methods, and tools in support of delivery.
  • Support pre-sales processes and collaborate with sales and account management to win new business; support proposal review and refinement; staff recruitment and development.
  • Engage in research and development in solar technology for new product development and stay current on technological advancements.
  • Communicate effectively, presenting complex information clearly to all levels of employees, management, and clients.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge in other renewable areas such as Energy Storage and High Voltage underground cable systems is a plus.
  • Understanding of photovoltaic systems, NEC/NBR requirements, and construction practices.
  • Ability to prioritize and execute tasks effectively in a high-pressure environment.
What your background should look like:
  • Electrical Engineering Degree.
  • Education or experience with power systems analysis and design.
  • Approximately 1-3 years in electrical engineering of Renewable Energies (Solar) Systems.
  • Proficiency in Excel and AutoCAD.
  • Knowledge of electrical codes/standards (NEC, NBR, AEA, NTC, IEC, IEEE).
  • Experience with cable sizing (ampacity, voltage drop) and power loss calculations.
  • Strong communication skills, including report writing.
  • Strong presentation and negotiation skills.
  • Operational, project management, consulting skills.
  • Experience with PV analysis software like PVSyst, SAM, or PVFarm is desirable.
  • Experience with power systems modeling software such as CYMCAP, ETAP, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, PSSE, PSLF, or similar is a plus.
  • Experience with electrical system studies like load flow, reactive power, short circuit, cable ampacity analysis is advantageous but not mandatory.
