Job summary

System One, Inc. is seeking a Jr. Software Test Engineer for an on-site contract-to-hire role in Huntsville, AL. The ideal candidate has 2+ years of experience, a science/engineering degree, and the ability to obtain a DoD security clearance.

You will test and validate software for defense/tactical systems, contribute to embedded software testing, and support automation efforts as you grow with a team of experienced engineers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mathematics, or equivalent with GPA ≥ 3.0.
• 2+ years of relevant technical experience with BS degree.
• Eligible to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance.
• Experience testing and/or troubleshooting embedded software or interfaces with embedded systems.
• Resident of North Alabama or willing to relocate to Huntsville-North Alabama area.
• Experience performing software testing on multi-disciplinary projects.
• Experience implementing software test automation.
• Programming in C#/.NET, C, C++, Java, Python, or Ruby.

Jr. Software Test Engineer (Contract-to-Hire)

Location: Huntsville, AL (On-site)

Security Clearance: Active Secret preferred OR ability to obtain

Pay Rate: $62-68/hr (W2)

About the role

Join a team supporting defense/tactical systems where you’ll help test and validate software used for mission-critical tools and applications. This is a great opportunity for someone early in their career to grow alongside experienced test engineers while working on meaningful programs.

Must have:

• Candidate must possess at least a bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mathematics, or equivalent technical degree with an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher.
• Candidate should have 2+ years of relevant technical experience with BS degree.
• Candidate must be eligible to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Defense security clearance.
• Relevant technical experience must include testing and/or troubleshooting embedded software or embedded-adjacent applications that interface with, operate, monitor, support, simulate, control, or communicate with embedded systems.
• Must be a resident of North Alabama or willing to relocate to the Huntsville-North Alabama area.
• Experience performing software test on multi-disciplinary projects.
• Have experience implementing with software test automation.
• Candidate must demonstrate ability in software development in either C#/.NET, C, C++, Java, Python, or Ruby programming languages.

Preferred:

• Experience writing user interface (UI) tests with automated UI testing technologies.
• Experience with applicable industry standards (IEEE 12207, CMMI, DO-178C and/or DO-278, MIL-STD-882e, RMF).
• The ability to work across multiple products under development by multiple small teams.
• Knowledge of Modular Open Systems Approach (MOSA) principles and application
• Experience with containerization, CI/CD pipelines, and microservices technology.
• Experience testing guidance & control algorithms.
• Experience testing navigation systems.
• Experience testing mission planning systems (NOMS, JMPS).
• Experience testing sensors used in guidance, navigation, or mission planning systems.
• Familiarity with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and SysML.
• Understanding of hardware-software integration and software systems engineering principles
• Great communication skills with ability to present to senior leadership and government customers.
