Job summary

Resolve Marine in Fort Lauderdale, FL is seeking a Junior Salvage Naval Architect to support emergency response, wreck removal, and field operations. You will develop emergency plans, 3D hull models, and stability calculations while traveling up to 75% to sites worldwide.

Position Summary

The Junior Salvage Naval Architect reports to the Engineering Manager and Tender Manager while in the office, and the Project Manager/Salvage Master in the field. This full-time salary position is based in Resolve Marine’s office in Ft. Lauderdale, FL and supports Resolve Marine’s global emergency response, salvage and wreck removal operations. The position responsibilities range from development of emergency response and wreck removal technical plans, engineering support for field operations and fleet support, as well as onsite field Naval Architecture support.

Brief Description

The Junior Salvage Naval Architect reports to the Engineering Manager and Tender Manager while in the office, and the Project Manager/Salvage Master in the field. This full-time salary position is based in Resolve Marine’s office in Ft. Lauderdale, FL and supports Resolve Marine’s global emergency response, salvage and wreck removal operations. The position responsibilities range from development of emergency response and wreck removal technical plans, engineering support for field operations and fleet support, as well as onsite field Naval Architecture support. Due to the nature of Resolve Marine’s operational requirements, this position requires immediate travel if an emergency response or salvage operation is initiated. The Junior Salvage Naval Architects will travel offsite from their home office for extended durations, with a maximum single deployment of approximately 12 weeks at any given time. Our Junior Salvage Naval Architects travel the world supporting operations to save and salvage ships and marine vessels, conduct vessel wreck removal operations and emergency repairs, as such this is not primarily an office setting position.

Position Responsibilities

• Provide support to the Salvage Master and operations team as needed, including the development of written technical plans, drawings and diagrams to support operations, perform initial emergency response surveys, towing plans and calculations, rigging design and vessel connections, vessel arrangements and site plans.
• Develop 3D hull models for use in stability software for damage stability, salvage and wreck removal operations.
• Use stability software and hydrostatics information to develop ground reactions, ballast/cargo discharge requirement and estimate freeing force requirements.
• Support various emergency response, salvage and wreck removal jobs by developing the engineering plans, arrangements and drawings to the satisfaction of the client and appropriate authorities. This includes both onsite and remote support for the salvage team.
• Develop written technical plans to be submitted to the client and appropriate authorities for various emergency response, salvage and wreck removal operations.
• Work with classification societies and flag state’s regarding maintenance and modifications to Resolve Marine’s own floating assets.
• Develop drawings and/or plans for modifications to Resolve Marine’s own floating assets.
• Perform structural calculations using first principle and advanced analysis. Experience or willingness to learn FEA structural analysis is strongly desired.
• Develop CAD drawings and designs for vessel modifications, vessel repairs, outfitting and site plans.
• Develop and engineer heavy lift and rigging arrangements.
• Support engineering projects that are associated with Resolve Marine’s other business units.
• Work both independently and as part of a team, providing technical support on‑site or remotely.

Requirements

• Minimum of 2 years of experience
• Bachelor’s Degree in Naval Architecture
• Familiarity with shipbuilding processes and production design, including detailed engineering design and drafting experience
• Engineer in Training (EIT) or ability to obtain EIT certification in Florida
• Computer Skills:
  • Working knowledge of hydrostatic calculations including the development of 3D hull models for using in stability software, experience with GHS software strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Autodesk AutoCAD software.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.

Travel Requirement

Up to 75% travel is required. If additional, travel is required beyond the specified amount, based on the operational demand, you will be notified accordingly so arrangements can be made.
