About the Opportunity

At Solaris, you'll help design, build, commission, and maintain the power generation and electrical infrastructure behind mission‑critical data center power for hyperscale and AI infrastructure customers. As an Electrical Engineer, you'll work closely with our senior field and design engineers building your skills on ETAP modeling, developing single-line diagrams, and protection schemes, all while supporting factory acceptance testing (FAT) and commissioning at customer sites. We're looking for a recent graduate with a total ownership mentality. Someone who is eager to learn fast, take on the detailed technical work, and grow into a lead engineering role.

This role is based out of our office with periodic travel (approximately 25%) to support FATs, commissioning, and site visits alongside senior engineers.

Essential Functions

• Develop and revise drawings for medium voltage and low voltage that include one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, control/relaying schematics, wiring diagrams, and general arrangement drawings, under supervision of senior engineers.
• Build and maintain ETAP models for microgrid and power delivery projects, running load flow, short‑circuit, arc‑flash, and coordination studies under the guidance of senior engineers.
• Manage engineering contractors to support overall detailed design project efforts
• Specify and review major electrical equipment items and participate in the technical procurement process
• Support factory acceptance testing (FAT) of purchased and manufactured equipment, including E‑houses, switchgear, and gas turbine packages from OEMs such as Solar Turbines, GE, and Pratt & Whitney.
• Travel to customer sites (approximately 25% of the time) to support commissioning activities and gain hands‑on exposure to microgrid systems in the field.
• Work alongside senior engineers to build a foundational understanding of protective relay settings and schemes for medium‑voltage equipment, including relays from SEL, GE, Siemens, and Beckwith.
• Assist with power budgets, monitoring, and metering documentation for mission‑critical assets.
• Participate in design meetings and reviews for new microgrid and power delivery projects, supporting vendor qualification and quality checks on purchased equipment.
• Maintain organized design and asset documentation across all project sites.
• Champion a safety‑first, quality‑first mindset in all work, and learn to apply NFPA 70, 70B, 70E, NESC, and IEEE standards.
• Receive structured mentorship from senior engineers, with increasing ownership of design tasks, FAT support, and field commissioning responsibilities over time.

Qualifications

Experience/Education

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, physics, or another engineering discipline (recently completed or completing soon); equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
• 0-1 years of experience in power systems design, analysis, testing, and/or field service; internship or co‑op experience in power systems, electrical design, or field engineering is a plus.
• Willingness and ability to travel periodically (approximately 25%) to customer sites across the continental U.S.
• Must reside in the continental U.S.

Preferred Skills and Experiences

• Coursework or project experience with power systems analysis software (ETAP, SKM, EasyPower, PSCAD, PSS/E, etc.).
• Exposure to industrial power systems equipment that includes generators, switchgear, transformers, BESS, VFDs, motors, UPS/emergency backups, and protective devices.
• Interest in pursuing a Professional Engineering (PE) license.
• Naturally curious self‑starter with a total ownership mentality. Must be eager to learn unfamiliar systems, take initiative, and ask questions.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the professionalism to represent the company well when on‑site.
• Ability to work well under mentorship, take direction, and progressively take on more independent responsibility.
