Brief Description:

Main Function

Performs routine, repetitive tasks under close supervision. May work in patient care areas, dietary service office, main kitchen, atrium dining room, or tray room. Maintains cleanliness and sanitation of work area.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Receives written and oral instructions regarding food portioning, methods, timing, and supplies.
  • Functions as dietary aide in main kitchen or tray room.
  • Portions and serves food according to supervisor’s specifications.
  • Maintains cleanliness and neatness of work area and equipment.
  • Responsible for storing foods and leftovers and minimizing waste.
  • Follows sanitation codes and regulations for handling food and equipment.
  • Distributes dietary carts (meals) to nursing units.
  • Records telephone messages as required.
  • Supports hospital mission and community activities.
  • Participates in Performance Improvement initiatives.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Attends mandatory educational programs.
  • Demonstrates customer/patient satisfaction through friendly, attentive interactions and communication.
Special Requirements
  • Willingness to work for the best interest of the institution.
  • Ability to cooperate with others.
  • Works under supervision but uses initiative to maintain workflow and sanitation.
  • Understanding of the seriousness of errors affecting patients.
  • Courtesy and tact in communication and interdepartmental relations.

Education

High school student; able to read, write, speak, follow directions, and perform basic math. Training provided in nutrition, sanitation, and hygiene.

Physical Demands

Ability to stand for long periods, reach, lift, stoop, and carry food and equipment. Frequent interruptions possible.
