Who You Are:

Precision Systems is seeking to hire a Construction Inspector Trainee with knowledge and experience of construction standards and practices. The ideal candidate will have 0 to 3 years of experience performing construction inspection within Virginia for VDOT. The Construction Inspector Trainee will assist in inspecting construction, with all responsibilities in a training capacity.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor the work of contractors to ensure quality control and contract compliance for roadway, structure, and bridge construction projects, under the supervision of a Construction Manager or their designee.
  • Inspect excavations, drainage structures, traffic control devices, road surfaces, and structures by comparing work performed to plans and specifications.
  • Maintain project records including daily inspector reports, workbooks, and materials records.
  • Assist in preparing project reports and documentation.
  • Receive on-the-job and classroom training to obtain designated highway material certifications.

Qualifications:

  • Basic knowledge of mathematics, including computation of length, area, and volumetric measurements.
  • Experience working in construction related to asphalt, concrete, pavement, inspection, and other services.
  • Experience working with VDOT is preferred but not required.
  • Willingness to learn and apply new information and concepts.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software.
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written.

Note: Construction Inspector A Trainees shall be registered through the Department of Labor and Industry (DOLI) in the Highway Construction Inspector apprenticeship program. Interns may be utilized in this role without DOLI enrollment if they are currently enrolled as students in an engineering or technical field and will work no more than 6 months in a 12-month period.

Compensation: The hourly rate for this position is subject to the maximum hourly rate listed in the current CEI Classification Hourly Rate Pay Limitations Memorandum.
