Job summary

Xcel Energy, Inc. is seeking an Electric Substation Electrician/Technician to build, repair, and operate high voltage substations. The role requires expertise with 345kV, 230kV, and 115kV systems and adherence to safety and lockout/tagout policies.

Responsibilities include installing and maintaining equipment, obtaining proper clearances, and working in challenging conditions. A CDL Class A is required or must be obtained within six months.

Qualifications

• Must have CDL Class A or obtain within 6 months.
• Journeyman level Substation Electrician who has completed an approved Substation Apprentice program or company approved equivalent program.
• Basic knowledge of National Electric Code, FERC, Hazmat, OSHA regulations.

Responsibilities

• Install, construct, inspect, repair and maintain all electrical substation equipment such as high voltage transformers, power circuit breakers, instrument transformers, structures, conductors, switches, regulators, generators, motors and pumps.
• Develop proficiency with high voltage equipment for safe operation and switching.
• Obtain and verify proper clearances and switch 345kV, 230kV, 115kV and other distribution voltages.
• Follow safety guidelines and lockout/tagout procedures; perform work in various weather, heights and confined spaces.

Will be responsible to obtain and verify proper clearances and must have the ability to switch 345kv, 230kv, 115kv and all distribution high voltages. A working knowledge of lockout tag out policies and procedures will also be expected.Take the lead on learning, implementing and demonstrating key safety practices and procedures that follow Xcel energy's safety guidelines.Required QualificationsIn this position, you will need to be self-motivated, work well on a team and have a positive attitude. You may work in a variety of weather conditions, at heights and within confined spaces. You will be expected to respond to after hours and weekend call-out and to travel extensively for extended periods of time.Successful applicants will have a High school diploma or GED and meet the following criteria:Must have a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A.
