Job summary

Karber Corporation, a full-service mechanical and plumbing contractor, seeks an HVAC Journeyman to install and service systems on diverse projects in data centers, healthcare, and manufacturing. The role emphasizes safety, teamwork, and hands-on leadership on job sites in Phoenix, AZ.

You will work under project managers and foremen, maintain licensing and sheet metal fabrication skills, supervise apprentices, and ensure quality and compliance with codes.

Qualifications

  • 4-year apprenticeship certificate or 4 years of field experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of sheet metal fabrication.
  • Must possess and maintain required licenses for working locales.
  • Reliable transportation to and from work.

Responsibilities

  • Direct field crew activities per project schedules and priorities with project managers and foremen.
  • Ensure safe, organized jobsite and proper maintenance of company equipment.
  • Instruct and train apprentices with emphasis on safety.
  • Maintain knowledge of local/national codes and conduct inspections as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  • Meet all the requirements of a 4-year apprentice
  • Use of all tools, equipment and skills necessary for the complete installation of projects common to the HVAC/piping industry.
  • Have the minimal tools as required by the company in his/her possession.
  • Direct the activities of field crew member(s) in accordance with job schedules and priorities as coordinated with project manager/customer/general contractor and field foreman as applicable.
  • Responsible for physical jobsite organization and housekeeping to ensure a safe professional work area.
  • Responsible for safe operation and maintenance of company equipment as well as monitoring the use and timely return of rented equipment.
  • Responsible for instruction and on the job training of apprentices which includes emphasis on safety.
  • Responsible for obtaining and maintaining necessary licensing/certification for performing work in areas where such is required.
  • Responsible for maintaining knowledge of local/national codes and industry standards. Ensure that all necessary inspections are made through all phases of work.
  • Support the total quality effort. Identify and respond to the needs of internal and external customers 100% of the time.
  • Work within the guidelines of the safety and employee policy.

  • Regular and predictable attendance is expected in order to meet the requirements of this position
  • Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • High school graduate/GED with appropriate 4 year apprenticeship certificate or 4 years of field experience
  • Thorough knowledge of all aspects of sheet metal fabrication
  • Working knowledge of all relevant national and local codes and company and industry standards.
  • Must possess and maintain licenses that are required in the jurisdictions that you are working.
  • Reliable transportation to and from work required
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to:

  • Have full range of mobility in upper and lower body.
  • Be able to reach overhead.
  • Be able to work a full range of physical activity in various positions, including, but not limited to, stooping, standing, bending over, kneeling and squatting, climbing, walking for extended periods of time.
  • Be able to lift, pull and push materials and equipment to complete assigned job tasks.
  • Be able to lift 75 pounds of weight frequently throughout assigned workday.
  • Capable of hearing at a level or correctable to a level where the person is able to receive detailed information through verbal communication. Vision must also be at a level or correctable level where the person has clarity both in short and long-distance vision.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. One will be exposed to dirt, noise, temperature extremes, vibrations, dampness, equipment movement, hazards, chemicals and solvents, lightning, ice, snow, work at night and in the dark. Person will be expected to be free from fear of heights and have the ability to work at heights on ladders and scaffolds. Some work may occur in confined spaces.
