Job summary

Amtrak is seeking a qualified Maintenance Technician to inspect, test, and repair plumbing, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems on High Speed Trainsets under FRA and Amtrak Tier II standards. The role emphasizes fault diagnosis, corrective actions, and reliable operation of critical train subsystems.

Required are a High School Diploma or GED, hands-on experience with mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems, and ability to read drawings.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Experience troubleshooting, repair and rebuilding mechanical equipment.
• Experience testing equipment and water/sanitation systems.
• Successful completion of training and certification applicable to the job.
• Knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
• Ability to read mechanical drawings.
• Ability to use electrical tools and meet standards.
• Ability to train others in inspections and repairs.
• Demonstrated computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, test and maintain plumbing, hydraulic and pneumatic systems on High Speed Trainsets.
• Troubleshoot equipment to determine corrective actions and causes of failures.
• Install, maintain and repair hydraulic and pneumatic circuits and systems.
• Repair tilting system, brake, water heating and sanitation systems.
• Install, maintain and repair heating and cooling equipment and piping.
• Maintain proper care and use of materials, test equipment, and hand tools.
