Duties include but are not limited to:

PLUMBER

PRIMARY PURPOSE

Constructs, erects, installs, and repairs plumbing systems, fixtures, and equipment using plumber's hand-tools and power tools, and conforming to local building codes.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS

1. Study blueprints, sketches, or building plans for information pertaining to type of material and piping required and dimensions of plumbing system to be installed.
2. Select type and size of pipe and related materials according to job plans and specifications.
3. Inspect work sites to determine presence of obstructions.
4. Plan sequence of installation to avoid obstructions and activities of other construction workers.
5. Cut pipe using hacksaw, pipe cutters, hammer and chisel, cutting torch, and pipe cutting machine.
6. Thread pipe using threading machine.
7. Bend pipe by hand or with pipe-bending machine.
8. Assemble and install a variety of metal and non-metal pipe and pipe fittings, including those made of brass, copper, lead, glass, and plastic.
9. Fit and install prefabricated sinks, faucets, showers, etc.
10. Join piping by means of threaded, caulked, wiped, soldered, brazed, fused, or cemented joints.
11. Secure pipes to structure with clamps, brackets, and hangers using hand tools.
12. Test plumbing system for leaks by increasing pressure in pipes and observing gauges attached to pipes for indication of leaks.
13. Follow directions, plans, and blueprints.
14. Rate information using standards which can be measured or checked.
15. Work within precise limits or standards of accuracy.
16. Make decisions based on measurable criteria.
17. Lift and carry objects of varying weights.
18. Perform work from scaffolding, ladders, or other structures.
19. Perform work overhead, beneath structure, and from various other positions as required by working conditions.
20. Detect, recognize and respond to dangerous conditions or situations.
